The aim of your Personal Trainer (PT) induction is to:
- Learn how to safely use gym equipment suitable for your joint pain condition.
- Practice using one cardiovascular machine and 2-3 resistance machines under PT supervision.
- Feel confident to use the gym independently after the induction.
As a joint pain program participant, you can book a 30 to 45-minute gym induction with a PT.
Here's how:
1. Call (01932 755755) or visit the reception.
2. Request a 30 to 45-minute gym induction with a PT, mentioning you're in the joint pain program.
Before your session:
1. Review the 👉 EXERCISE LIST
2. Familiarize yourself with the Recommended and Neutral sections for your specific joint pain.
3. Choose exercises you feel comfortable trying.
When you meet your PT, explain:
> "Hi, I'm in the joint pain program. I'd like to learn proper techniques for using some machines based on my condition. I'm not here to work out, but to understand the exercises better. Could you please demonstrate and supervise as I try them?"
1. Your responsibility: Show the PT which exercises you want to learn.
2. Start with Recommended: Choose exercises you're comfortable with or have done before.
3. Be flexible: If equipment is busy, ask the PT to show you another exercise from the list.
4. Mix and match: You can choose from both Recommended and Neutral sections.
You'll practice:
- One cardiovascular machine (3-5 minutes)
- Two to three resistance machines (2 sets of 10-15 repetitions each)
For each machine:
1. The PT will demonstrate setup and proper form.
2. You'll practice while the PT supervises.
3. Use the lowest setting and move slowly.
4. Ask questions about setup, technique, and form.
- Choose one you're comfortable with.
- Practice for 3-5 minutes after the PT's demonstration.
- Select 2-3 machines from Recommended or Neutral sections.
- For each machine:
- Do 2 sets of 10-15 repetitions.
- Use the lowest setting.
- Move slowly through the motion.
- Ask questions and focus on proper form.
By the end of your induction, you should:
- Feel comfortable with at least one cardiovascular machine.
- Know how to use 2-3 resistance machines safely.
- Understand proper form and technique for each exercise.
- Feel confident to come to the gym independently and use the machines you've learned.
Remember, this induction is your chance to learn. Don't hesitate to ask questions or request clarification.
Your PT is there to help you feel confident and safe using the gym equipment.
After the induction, you should feel empowered to visit the gym on your own and incorporate the exercises you've learned into your routine.
